Internet Explorer 7 is more paranoid than previous versions. While this is actually a good thing, it does cause issues when trying to use Outlook Web Access to check your e-mail.
The following steps will setup Internet Explorer 7 to trust our e-mail server. This will keep you from seeing a lot of errors and warning messages when you start using Outlook Web Access (OWA).
The good news is you should only have to do this once. The bad news is there are an awful lot of steps to go through and it's very easy to get confused as to what you should be clicking and when. Pay careful attention to the directions and the screenshots for best results.
When you click on the link for OWA a large scary warning pops up with a recommendation to close the webpage:
Despite the warnings and recommendations, click "Continue to this website (not recommended)".
This brings up the familiar login box:
Fill this out in the usual "WALS\Username" format with the appropriate password and click Ok.
This (finally) opens your mailbox and you see your e-mail and can use OWA normally at this point. However, you'll notice that the address bar has a pink background and you see that there is another Certificate Error up at the top:
Again, at this point life is actually good and you can use OWA normally. In order to streamline the login process in the future though, and not have to see a pink address bar, then boldly click on the Certificate Error button. When you click on the Certificate Error button a new pop-up appears:
and you see yet another distressing warning recommending you close the webpage. Click on "View certificates" at the bottom to continue.
This will open the Certificate window. Of the three tabs across the top, you want to click on Certification Path and then click on Magneto to highlight it. Your screen should now display something like this:
When your screen matches the screenshot (it's very important that MAGNETO is highlit, not outlook.winnefox.org), then click the View Certificate button. This takes us to the Certificate Information about MAGNETO:
Click "Install Certificate" to proceed to the Certificate Import Wizard:
Click the Next button. Takes you to:
We want to have IE "Automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate" so click Next again. Takes you to:
This is just a confirmation box, so click Finish. One more Security Warning will pop up:
Yet another warning that you can safely ignore. Click Yes to continue:
A successful import is good. Click Ok, which takes you back to the certificate information:
Click the Ok button at the bottom, which takes you back to the other Certificate window:
One last click of the Ok button on the bottom and you are finished.
I'd recommend closing Internet Explorer at this point and starting it up again to check your e-mail. It should only pop up the login window and there should be no warnings at all. Congratulations!
IE may still have a few bugs though and it's easy enough to get lost in the steps. If these steps didn't work for you, feel free to contact WALS for assistance.
